Veszprém, the Town of Queens, has a thousand years of history, a vivid cultural life and many exciting sights to see. It‘s history dates back to the Age of Conquest: Veszprém came into the possession of the royal family, and its Episcopate was founded in 1001. Queen Giselle had a central role in building the cathedral. Follow her footsteps and visit the Town of Queens.

Passing under the arch of the town gate, you can see the historic old town. You pass by a monument with every step you take on the cobblestones of Castle Street. You can find beautiful churches, chapels and art galleries in one street.
Trinity Statue, St Michael’s Cathedral, Giselle Chapel and the Archbishop’s Palace reveal strong ties between the city and Church and tell you the story of the important role Veszprém has played in the history of the country.
You can admire a stunning panorama of the city and the Valley Bridge from the statue in the castle of King Stephen and Queen Giselle.
The Fire Tower is a city landmark. Originally, it was built for war purposes, later it was used to watch out for potential fires in the city. The tower clock starts to play the recruiting music of Antal Csermák every hour and the tower has a beautiful view of the city.
St Stephen’s Valley Bridge – another landmark of the city – reaches from Jerusalem Hill to Cemetery Hill; it is also known as the Viaduct. Next to it, you can find the Wildlife Park, named after the famous Africa traveller, Kálmán Kittenberger. It is home to native and exotic animals.
Veszprém is incredibly exciting because of several downtown events throughout the year. Giselle Days, the Dance Festival, the Children’s Puppet Theatre Festival, the Street Music Festival, the Veszprém Summer Festival, the Veszprém Days Festival, and the Vivace International Choir Festival offer a great cultural variety for the guests.
In a vote carried out by the Hungarian Television in its programme called “Main Square”, Veszprém won the “Locality of the Year 2005” title. Veszprém was the locality most voted for in the competition. Come and check out the unique qualities of the Town of Queens.
