Tata is the Town of Waters. It deserves this name for having several springs and two lakes – Old Lake and Cseke Lake.
We should start our sight seeing tour – we could also travel on the narrow gauge train – from the Water Castle on the shore of Old Lake. It is an astonishing renaissance building from the times of Sigmund of Luxembourg and King Matthias.

Eszterházy Castle is also on the shore of Old Lake. It was built according to the plans of Jakab Fellner following the failed attempt by the Eszterházy family to rebuild the castle into a baroque one.
Old Lake is also a great experience for enthusiasts of water sports. In the summer period, tourists can travel by ship from the port below the castle to the other side.
The first English Park of the country can be found along the shore of Lake Cseke. The park hides rare plant species, while the ruins and the winding creek create an atmosphere for a pleasant walk. In the summer time, the silence of the park is “broken” by performances on the open-air stage.
Tata is all about water. Water mills remain there as proof: Cifra-, Miklós-, Pötörke- and Nepomucenus Mills. The latter is the home of the present day German Nationality Museum.
If you come to Tata, you should also visit the wooden clock tower at Országgyűlés Square made by the carpenter József Éder.
Apart from the natural beauties and sights of Tata, there are events all year round for guests. Here’s a list to demonstrate the town’s vivid cultural life: the Water, Music, Flower Festival, Tata Baroque Festival with its concerts recalling old times, the Tata Wild Goose Festival, or the great fishing event on Old Lake.
